Bioinformatics positions at Monsanto

BIOINFORMATICS SCIENTISTS

We seek several highly motivated and experienced computational biologists to work closely with molecular biologists and multi- disciplinary drug discovery project teams. This position will involve providing bioinformatic analysis to address therapeutic challenges in inflammation, cardiovascular diseases and oncology. The challenge is to integrate and analyze large, complex data sets, such as sequences, array-based gene expression studies, human genetic studies and model organism studies. Expertise in standard bioinformatics tools (e.g. BLAST, GCG tools etc.) and any of the following areas: transcriptional profiling analysis, signal-transduction, biochemical and regulatory networks, HMMs and profile methods, human genetics (SNPs etc.), and protein fold recognition, homology modeling, will be considered. Candidates will also be expected to develop independent research projects within Searle's therapeutic focus. Successful candidates will possess a Ph.D. with postdoctoral experience or demonstrated equivalent experience. Some experience in scientific programming skills, including scripting in PERL, Python, and or SQL/Oracle in a UNIX operating environment, as well as good communication and writing skills are essential.

BIOSTATISTICIAN

We seek a highly motivated and experienced biostatsitican to work closely with our computationally biology and multi-disciplinary drug discovery project teams. This position will involve providing a strong statistical framework to the data mining efforts. Expertise in any of the following areas:
classification methods, maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference will be considered. Candidates will be expected to develop independent research projects within the scope of computational biology. Successful candidates will possess a Ph.D. or demonstrated equivalent experience. Some experience in scientific programming skills, such as scripting in PERL, Python, or SPLUS in a UNIX operating environment, as well as good communication and writing skills are essential.
